At the Lord Thompson Manor, all of our weddings have specific colors. Many have themes—for example, the elegant, classic, versatile Garden theme. Our most sophisticated weddings even have motifs, little images or ideas which recur in all sorts of small details to bring each wedding to a cohesive whole.

A motif might begin right when the bride and groom set their date, and can carry through to the thank-you cards. If they decide, for example, on a Beach theme with a Seashell motif, they might print their Save the Date cards or invitations with images of conch or scallop shells. As the big day draws nearer, the bride might choose a mermaid dress and put her bridesmaids in sandy beige with pearlescent seashell (or shell-inspired) accessories. Shells can inspire the choice of flowers, decorate the wedding cake table or adorn the centerpieces. Then, each wedding favor can come as a personalized message in a bottle, with a small gift, a few shells and a small “Thank you for coming to our special day” note in a little plastic or glass bottle. Finally, when the bride and groom send thank-you notes for the wedding gifts they received, they can use cards with shells on them.

The Renaissance, famed for revitalizing the arts and sciences after the centuries-long Dark Ages, can be the perfect source of inspiration for a Wedding. Some Brides and Grooms throw themselves headfirst into the theme, with period costume, turkey legs and ambling minstrels—but at the Lord Thompson Manor, couples don’t have to travel through time to celebrate the Renaissance. They can just incorporate a few of the following touches into their Weddings, and otherwise enjoy the marvels of modern food, fabrics and toiletries.

Renaissance art can help set a cultured, elegant tone for a Wedding. The Wedding Stationery could feature prints of artwork or photographs of statues by such famous artists as Raphael, da Vinci and Michelangelo. Renaissance art can influence the Bride’s choice of Wedding Colors, if she incorporates some of the rich but muted reds and blues of the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, highlighted with touches of gold and defined with the chocolate brown and navy of the Mona Lisa.

The Renaissance can also inform the Bride’s choices when it comes to her floral arrangements. Bouquets could be tied together with ribbon, or even twine. Renaissance-inspired arrangements could include thistle, heather, marigold, lilies and—of course—roses. However, these arrangements could be bolstered with herbs; in the Renaissance, it was a common practice for Brides to carry sage, dill and rosemary down the aisle. They also often wore wreaths of flowers instead of veils. Finally, ivy is the perfect addition to Renaissance-inspired floral arrangements.

Green can be a lovely color for Wedding, but the Lord Thompson Manor makes every Wedding green in another sense. We’re very conscious of our environmental impact,

First of all, the Lord Thompson Manor has green grounds. Our landscaped forty acre estate is surrounded in and covered with carbon dioxide-breathing, oxygen-releasing, soil-replenishing plants. Our towering trees and manicured grounds are just as functional as they are beautiful. However—as with so many things—the Lord Thompson Manor loves to take the extra step from “good” to “wonderful.” All of the herbs used in our kitchen are grown in a garden on the estate, ensuring that we continually refresh the Earth.

Secondly, the Lord Thompson Manor is proud of its green kitchen.

Finally, the Lord Thompson Manor has carefully crafted a green office. We forgo numerous administrative steps that other businesses in the industry require, such as paperwork for checking in and out; we also favor electronic communication, minimizing the amount of paper we use (the fact that email happens to be instant and incredibly convenient is a perk). There is also generally less paperwork and transportation of goods needed for Weddings at the Lord Thompson Manor, because we own the tables, chairs, linens, tableware, etc, that many other venues would need to rent.

The wedding ceremony itself is the highlight of the wedding day, and among the most important moments of the bride and groom’s lives.

The wedding ceremony itself is the highlight of the wedding day, and among the most important moments of the bride and groom’s lives. That said, we at the Lord Thompson Manor can’t help but notice that they breeze by, often taking up less than an hour, while the reception takes up considerably more time. We find that wedding guests are the most active and have the most fun when the reception has the perfect atmosphere, and this is something we have down to a science.

The first component of perfect reception atmosphere is the lighting. The proper amounts of complementary colors can not only illuminate tables, centerpieces and cakes that were all so carefully crafted and chosen, but make them look better. Incidentally, the same is true for the guests! Lighting can both reflect and stimulate the overall mood of the reception, brightening as energetic dancers celebrate on the dance floor and softening as the party winds down. Proper lighting can also help focus the guests’ attention; thus, we accent our elegant tables during dinner to keep our guests looking at each other and interacting, and our dance floor when the music is calling to them.

The second element of reception atmosphere appeals to a more subtle human sensibility: aroma. The Lord Thompson Manor is no stranger to decorating its well-ventilated rooms with neutral white candles and soft flowers. Our guests detect no cleaning materials, and the various smells of their delicious meal are cleansed from their olfactory palates right after dinner. It is an unsung and often overlooked component of atmosphere, but a clear, fresh, subtle aroma places guests at their ease and reassures them that unpleasantness is far away.

The third and most discussed element of a wedding reception’s atmosphere is the music. Whether a bride and groom decide to hire live musicians or make use of the Lord Thompson Manor’s sound system, music plays a crucial role in the evening’s celebrations. The perfect balance of romance, accessibility, fun and class can keep a reception dancing for several happy hours. The Lord Thompson Manor utilizes volume and acoustics to accentuate every musical moment, from the bride and groom’s tender first dance as a married couple to the evening’s highest-energy crowd enjoying itself on the floor.

Poetry is as alive as it ever was although its modern form seems a world away from its traditional arrangement of close rhyme and tightly rhythmic verse. With the general tendency towards shortened English (eg textspeak) in common use and with the perceived (although not by all of us) reduced importance in grammar, it is not immediately obvious why anyone would want to keep alive a form of our language which is by definition circuitous. Yet, despite all this, poetry thrives.

Perhaps it is because deep down there is a poet in all of us. I think poetry comes into its own where prose fails to capture the overall picture we are trying to convey. For example, with prose, certain nouns and verbs tend to be tied together. As an illustration, let’s imagine we’ve seen a group of ducks crossing a very still duckpond first thing in the morning. In prose, it becomes very matter of fact – we need to use a collective noun like ‘flock’ or ‘paddling’ to describe the duck group and it ends up being, ‘A flock of ducks paddles gently across the still water of the pond’ whereas a poem might say, ‘A flotilla of ducks sails majestically across the mirror-smooth waters’.

Another use of poetry is where the poet alludes to a specific topic without actually naming it and where we want the reader to decide exactly what the poem is referring to. The same illustration, rewritten in this light would remove any specific naming of the ducks or even the water, leaving the reader of the poem to stop and think about what the poet is trying to say. Of course, the reader may come up with a totally different interpretation of the poetry but that is part of the charm of the poem – it is what we decide it to be. Thus our illustration now becomes, ‘Carved silhouettes of dappled feathers slice the morning mirror’.

Many of us have felt the urge to pen a few lines of verse at some time or other. Why? Why would we deliberately not choose the shortest way of saying something? The answer is similar to why we choose to play or listen to music. A poem is equivalent to a song and the poet is the musician or songwriter. I think that poetry extends beyond the simple level of just communicating a fact or message, it attempts to provide a 3-D picture. This is in the same way that a song is more than the lyrics and some notes played by an assorted motley of instruments.

Interesting article from Lord Thompson Manor

Romance poetry is part of society. Just like love and affection cannot be divorced from us, we need romance poetry for everyday life. Sometimes, they say water is life and love is poetry. It is only these beautiful literally words that can make it possible for us to really communicate. The beauty about poetry is that it does not have to be dramatic. There are very many people who get scared at the thought of poetry. It is what we eat and drink, the little sentences that are often neglected. When you wish to speak or write good poetry, there are several things that you need to know. First, you need to consider whether your heart is pure. You do not have to be an angel; however, you need to be sincere. False poetry is one that is not inspired from the heart by love. Therefore, it is not judged by the rhyming words but by the depth of those words. The next time you consider writing it, look deeper and take time, you will definitely impress your audience.

After that brief overview of romance poetry, you need to understand that your most important audience is your spouse. This can also be the person you are in a romantic relationship with. For this reason, you are better placed. You know what they like and what they do not like. You can come up with something very personal or customized just for them in regard to poetry. Romance is a sure builder of all relationships and, you need to be in a position where you are ready and willing to please your mate. The main problem that people find when it comes to lack of romance is the unwillingness to give. I’m talking about giving romance or giving love. It is this act of giving that is able to revitalize your relationship. Therefore, if you want to think poetry, you have to change your mind and attitude. Be a willing giver. This way, you do not have to wait for them to do something for you; you simply take the initiative of loving them.

Romance poetry will not only help your spouse love you better but, it will also make you feel lovable. Loving yourself is necessary before you love another person. Romance poetry while mature will translate to great changes in your relationship. Since you feel better about each other, you will be in a position to romance better further improving intimacy. You will be inspired to find ways of improving your sex life and it can all start with poetry. If you are the kind of macho man who does not believe in the power of poetry, you will have to suffer the consequences of a dry love life. Otherwise, you must believe in the power of poetry for things to be better in your relationship. Most people are lay men and nobody expects you to be a career poet. Breath and feel poetry and the rest will be clear to you.

Today’s Poetry

By Joseph Mangraviti

Modern poetry, more than just being a literary art, is taking over , thanks to small press. More books get published today than before. Great talented poets write new books every day and, through book signings and book readings, make their books popular. Contests, sponsored by literary magazines and universities, and on line group discussions are spreading poetry like never before. Readers get more sophisticated. While they appreciate fiction, they expand their reading to poetry.

Poetry has become like Math, a tool that make you stop, wonder and think. Poetry makes the reader a better person intellectually and spiritually. It paints life with all the colors of the rainbow. Poetry plays with alternative meanings of words to evoke and to stir up emotions to grab attention and to create wonder and suspense. Ambiguity, symbolism, irony and passion make the written word very powerful. Romance reaches new heights, drama more intensity, religion a new plateau. The beauty and sounds of words fascinate the reader by taking him or her on the beautiful planet of fantasy, imagination and ecstasy. Good becomes best. Honesty becomes heroism. Leadership becomes vision and success.

Calliope, the muse of epic poetry, and Erato, the muse of erotic poetry, join hands in modern poetry. They embrace the modern man and guide him to new heights, new depths and to a new horizon. Aristotle’s Poetics are still alive today: the epic, the comic and the tragic. Today’s poetry is richer than ever because it incorporates the form and diction of other cultures, too.
